Memory Test - Concept creation and initial prototype
This game idea was created after a long walk in wich I started wondering about memory loss and how it can cause suffering to elder people. It's a very painful reality to many people. I have to say I have no former studies in this area but it's a subject I care about.
The "game" idea was to try to hold as many fragments (or shards) of a face. To acheve this you have to "guess" the letter key that holds that shard in place. Then you would've had to hold all 4 or more shards.
At first, When i tried 4 keys it was very difficult and unconfortable to play but I thought that feeling was supporting the original idea as it simulated the struggle of trying to hold onto personal memories.
I made a progress bar to show the percentage of shards you're holding at the time so after you fullfill it, you go to the next scene.
The first problem with this was that many keyboards only support up to 2 or 3 keyboard inputs at a time. That was a hardware problem so I decided to make the player try to press those keys at the same time to make them hold in place therefore they can win the level.
I realized the new mechanic had a little different feeling about the game theme but there weren't any real solution and I decided to keep going with that one over the former one.
The main game loop was ready so I spent a day working on shaders and making a list of sound effects to make and incorporate later. I made the screen flow so now the game is endless but that's just for these early versions.
Currently working on:
-sound effects
-new systems
-recalibrating previous systems
-screen transitions
Please let me know what you think about the game or what you felt while and after playing it! :)
